Clock Solitaire is a simple yet suspenseful patience game built entirely around the face of a clock. It’s known for being almost purely luck-driven, but that unpredictability is exactly what gives the game its charm. Unlike many solitaire variants that rely on strategy, Clock Solitaire creates tension through gradual reveals, a race against fate, and the looming threat of uncovering the final king too soon. As no decision making is required it is a nice game to play meditatively, processing the cards as you relax your mind.
A standard 52-card deck is shuffled and dealt into 13 piles, each containing four cards. These piles are arranged in a circular formation resembling a clock face:
All cards begin face-down, with the top card of the center pile turned face-up first.
Gameplay is a continuous chain of draws and placements:
Flip the top card of the current pile.
Move that card to the pile corresponding to its value:
After placing the card, the next card to flip is the top card of the pile where it was just placed.
This creates a looping, self-directing pattern of play that can shift unpredictably as new piles become active.
The entire game typically lasts only a few minutes, making it perfect for quick play sessions.
